Recipes

Write recipes or import them from websites, add pictures and tags, and put them on shopping lists.

What a recipe holds

A recipe has a name and ingredients with their amounts for a number of servings. If you like, add a picture, tags, the instructions and the link to where it comes from.

Your family sees and edits your recipes, as you see theirs. The list of recipes shows who wrote each one.

Write a recipe

  1. Open “Recipes” and press “Add Recipe” at the bottom right.
  2. Enter the “Recipe Name”. It needs at least 10 characters: “Spaghetti Bolognese” rather than “Pasta”.
  3. Set “Base Qty” to the number of servings the amounts are for.
  4. Press “Add Ingredient” for each ingredient and fill in what it is, how much and the unit (see below).
  5. Add a picture, tags and the “Instructions” if you like.
  6. Press “Save” at the bottom.
Good to know
  • Is the recipe on a website? Paste its address into “Recipe Source” and choose “Import”: Greezy fills in the rest (see “Import from a link” below).

Ingredients and units

Each ingredient has a description of what to buy (“Onions”), an amount and a unit. Keep the description to the product – “Onions”, not “2 onions, diced” – so the same ingredient adds up on shopping lists. These are the units:

  • g and ml: grams and millilitres
  • pc: pieces, e.g. 2 pc onions
  • pk: packs, e.g. 1 pk yeast
  • tbsp and tsp: tablespoons and teaspoons
  • cup, bunch and pinch: cups, bunches and pinches
  • fixing: not something to buy, but room for a side dish (see the guide on side dishes)
Good to know
  • Tick “Optional” for what you usually have at home, like salt or oil. Such ingredients go on shopping lists marked “Optional”.
  • The bin next to an ingredient removes it.
  • Greezy shows a picture next to each ingredient: from your shops if they have one, else from Open Food Facts.

Servings

“Base Qty” is the number of servings the recipe's amounts are written for. When you put the recipe on a shopping list or into a recipe group, you say how many servings you cook, and Greezy works out the amounts: a recipe for 2 put on a list for 4 doubles every amount.

Tags

Tags sort your recipes, e.g. “Vegetarian”, “Quick” or “Christmas”. In “Tags”, pick tags you used before, or type a new one into the search field and choose it to add it.

In the list of recipes, tap a tag to see only the recipes that have it; tap it again to see all.

Good to know
  • Tags take letters, digits, - and _. Greezy turns spaces into dashes, so “Low Carb” becomes “Low-Carb”.
  • Side dish recipes carry the name of the placeholder they fill as a tag, e.g. “Rice” (see the guide on side dishes).

A picture

  1. In the recipe, press “Add a picture”, or drop a photo onto the field.
  2. Pick a photo (JPEG, PNG or WebP). Greezy makes it smaller by itself.
  3. Press “Save”: only then does the recipe keep the picture.
Good to know
  • The list of recipes shows a small version, cut to fit; the recipe's page shows the whole picture.
  • Imports bring the source's picture along.
  • Share links don't show the picture, and copies saved from them have none.

Find recipes

Type at least three letters into “Search” to see the recipes whose names have them. Pick tags in “Tags” to see the recipes with any of them.

Side dish recipes are hidden in the list; tick “Show Fixings” to see them too.

Good to know
  • The page's address keeps the search, so the browser's back button brings you back to the same list.

Change or delete a recipe

Tap a recipe in the list to open it. Change what you like and press “Save”; “Discard” brings back what was saved.

To delete a recipe, press “Delete” at the bottom of its page. In the list, the red bin next to a recipe deletes it too; on a phone, swipe the recipe to the left to see the bin.

Good to know
  • Changes also show to everyone you shared the recipe with by link.

Put a recipe on a shopping list

  1. Open the recipe and unfold “Add to a list or shop” below it.
  2. In “Choose Shopping List”, pick a list, or “--- CREATE NEW LIST ---” for a new one named after the recipe.
  3. Set the servings you cook in “Recipe Qty”.
  4. If the recipe has room for side dishes, pick one for each.
  5. Press the + button. Greezy adds the ingredients and offers to open the list.
Good to know
  • “Shop now” puts the recipe on a temporary list instead, to order from right away. It is deleted after a week unless you keep it.
